Stories tell us who we are, what we want, what our goals of life should be. Advertisers, reporters, and politicians are among those who know this best.
We have an important choice to make this week, to be shaped by the story of events that happened in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. The story of Jesus – especially the last week of his life – is the greatest story ever told and always will be.
The onus is on you and me to read the Gospel narratives of each day, Thursday and Friday in particular, in order to be grasped by what Easter – the Resurrection of Jesus – really means.
Devotionals and suggested readings of the sequence of days abound online, not to mention just going to our Bibles, turning the pages of the Gospels to find what the writer said about each day. I’ve found that Matthew has a good layout of the Passion week.
Let’s immerse ourselves in this narrative of Jesus culminating in his execution in Jerusalem, for without it, there is no Christian church, no Christian faith, no personal Savior, no new way of living, no forgiveness of sins, no life forever, no God to go to in prayer for all the needs of our lives.
Start tomorrow on Palm Sunday. A suggestion is what I read today, Matthew 21:1-17. There’s no other story as amazing and powerful as the story of Jesus.
